Spinal Rehabilitation
Spinal rehabilitation refers to problems with your neck or back. Because of the unique structure of the spine and special problems related to this area, specialized training is necessary to ensure appropriate intervention.
Because the majority of problems are mechanical, relating to specific activities, postures, and habits of the patient's and client's life style, a mechanical solution is necessary. A thorough evaluation will be performed to identify movements, positions, and activities that aggravate the condition as well as those that will decrease symptoms.

Because of the unique structure, anatomy and functional requirements of the hand, specialized training is necessary for proper rehabilitation. Hand rehabilitation is truly a subspecialty of orthopedics. Physical/Occupational Therapists and physicians work closely to be sure appropriate intervention is being rendered for the specific surgical intervention you have received.

The therapist's approach to getting and staying in shape. The targeted program helps the inactive or underactive prepare for increased physical exertion, including home exercise, by teaching the proper way to condition muscles. At the end of your program you will be able to safely continue your exercise routine at home, in the gym, or outside.

Other job-related evaluation:
- General physical therapy evaluations
- Work tolerance testing to determine a person's suitability for a specific job
Neurological rehabilitation involves injuries, disease, and problems related to the central nervous system. In physical therapy the goal is to achieve maximal, independent level of function through strengthening, range of motion, coordination and balance training as well as functional activities.

Pediatric rehabilitation refers to rehabilitation of children with neurologic disease, injuries or conditions. It requires special training to assess a wide variety of problems such as muscle weakness, muscle tightness, balance, and coordination issues, somatosensory integration, motor planning and more. These issues must be addressed in physical therapy in a form of play, as is age appropriate, to ensure the child's cooperation and interest.

Orthopedic rehabilitation encompasses a wide range of injuries and problems involving the joints, muscles, tendons, ligaments, bones and peripheral nerves. In physical therapy we work to resolve pain, limited motion, gait problems, weakness, loss of function, and to prevent recurrence.

Athletic injuries are essentially orthopedic injuries which have a sport specific component. Our goal for the athlete is to return the patient to the sport quickly, while preventing re-injuries through proper warm-up and training procedures. Our program is uncommonly effective, helping return patients to previous levels of sports activity through exercises for the trunk, upper, and lower extremities and back.

Functional Rehabilition will focus on your ADL's (activities of daily living) as well as your IADL's (instrumental activities of daily living).

Orthotic Assessment And Fabrication
A specialized biomechanical evaluation of the foot/ankle and lower extremities is performed to determine the need for a corrective shoe insert (orthosis). When an orthosis is found to be beneficial, it is custom fabricated onsite at North Fork Physical Therapy.

Fall Risk Assessment & Conditioning Program
A major concern for older adults is the risk of falling and suffering from a serious injury as a result. North Fork Physcial Therapy is pleased to offer their patients, particularly 65 and older, a comprehensive program to evaluate their "fall risk factors". We can help them determine if their physical and environmental conditions place them at a higher risk for fall and injury, then advise how they can correct those areas affecting them.
